Opinion on Cancun, Mexico?

I wanted to go to Cancun, Mexico (never been) but heard the people there are not as nice as those in Puerto Vallarta. Does anyone know if this is true? I went to PV this past February and had an awesome time, but would like to try a different place in Mexico I just don't want my experience to be a bad one. Thanks!
