Does adding Vanilla Essence to Royal Icing make it taste any better?

I need to make 50 cupcakes for a relatives 50th birthday. I made a small test batch last week to try out my piping skills and although they tasted nice, the icing was a bit too overpowering. I'm wondering if a cap full of vanilla essence would take the sweet edge away, has anyone tried this?
